Marking the arrival of spring, Saint Cloche Atelier presented An Evening at One Darling Point - an exploration of how contemporary art, design and place can shape the way we experience a home.
Curated by Kitty Clark, Founder and Curator of Saint Cloche, the harbourside residence was envisioned as a collector’s apartment, with artworks selected in response to its architecture, material palette, natural light and surrounding landscape.
At the heart of Saint Cloche Atelier is our mission to bring contemporary art into the spaces we live in, creating meaningful connections between artists, collectors, design and place. For one evening, that idea expanded into a sensory experience through digital art, sound, performance, sculptural florals and gastronomy.
The experience began with Daniel O’Toole’s immersive digital work Eye of the Butterfly, first presented as part of the Paxos Biennale in Greece in 2024. Through light, movement and sound, the work created a threshold into the evening before guests moved deeper into the residence.
There, a luminous glass installation introduced another material language, while a live painting performance responding to sculptural spring florals by Mi Violet evolved in real time. Painting, sculpture and objects appeared throughout the residence, inviting discovery as guests moved between spaces.
At the centre of the evening, Kitty Clark and Jeremy Bull, Principal of Alexander &CO., led a conversation exploring the relationship between art, interior design and place.
Moving through the residence, they considered how the design language responds to its harbourside setting and how the art curation builds upon those foundations. Rather than art as a final addition to an interior, the conversation considered its role in shaping how a home is experienced and lived with - bringing the artist’s perspective, material language and individuality into the everyday.
Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Nic Wong responded to Sydney Harbour, season and place through a sculptural culinary sequence, extending the experience through produce, form and presentation.
Together, these encounters posed a simple question: how might art change the way we experience a home?
An Evening at One Darling Point brought art, design and place into closer proximity - experienced through material, sound, taste and conversation, and through the different ways we move through and encounter a space.
