Join us as we celebrate Songs from the Studio, the latest solo exhibition by Northern Rivers-based artist Toni Clarke. In this evocative new body of work, Clarke paints through sound, allowing music to guide her brush as she explores memory, emotion, and the fleeting nature of time.

Much like the carefully curated mixtapes of her youth - each song telling a story, not just individually but across the full duration - Clarke’s paintings capture fragments of experience, evoking moments that feel just out of reach. Whether sparked by a familiar melody, a scent from the past, or the warmth of a shared meal, these works exist in the liminal space between recollection and reinvention.

Known for her energetic mark-making and deep ties to the restaurant world, Clarke’s work pulses with movement and storytelling. From her early days working in kitchens to co-owning Bondi’s beloved Brown Sugar café, she has long been immersed in spaces filled with conversation, theatre, and sensory delights. Her previous series, Ghost of the Roast, captured the essence of fine dining through playful, spirited depictions of roasted chickens on baking trays. Now, with Songs from the Studio, Clarke shifts her focus to another kind of shared experience - music’s ability to transport, transform, and connect us.

This exhibition is an invitation to listen with your eyes, to find resonance in the spaces between memory and imagination. In each painting, Clarke offers a scene, a little piece of theatre, a slice of memory - waiting for the viewer to bring their own soundtrack.
