The exhibition title, Loud Whisper, pays homage to McCartney’s admiration for Isamu Noguchi’s iconic sculpture of the same name - exploring the paradox that a work can be both subtle and powerful, intimate yet commanding. For this exhibition, she has hand-selected some of her favourite pieces from Saint Cloche’s stable of artists, curating a collection that reflects this delicate balance of presence and restraint.
McCartney’s celebrated book, The Alchemy of Things: Interiors Shaped by Curious Minds, is a testament to her ability to uncover the essence of creative spaces. In it, she takes readers into the homes and minds of artists, designers, architects, and collectors, revealing the philosophies behind their curated interiors. This same sensibility informs Loud Whisper, where each chosen artwork and design element invites contemplation and discovery.
Adding another layer to this rich dialogue, the exhibition will be accompanied by design interventions from 506070, Sydney’s original mid-century modern design boutique. Established in 1998 by Mike Dawborn, 506070 has been a beacon for collectors and enthusiasts of rare and beautifully restored 20th-century design objects with pieces by Castiglioni, Afra and Tobia Scarpa and Gaetano Pesce amongst others. Selected furniture and lighting from his store will transform the gallery space into an evocative environment where art and design converge.
