Leanne Xiu Williams, is an emerging artist based on Gadigal land (Sydney), she is a self-taught painter and Art History graduate from the University of Sydney. Inspired by human connections, she explores still life, portraiture, and figuration, aiming to capture intimate moments through the interplay of light and shadow. Her art alludes to experiences beyond representation, invoking memories, dreams, and sensations. She most recently collaborated with Two Good Co on their third book ‘Change the Course', has been featured in The Design Files, and was a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Art Award. Leanne is represented by Saint Cloche gallery.

Through her artistic practice, Leanne Xiu Williams hopes to explore the transience of memory and how narratives of personal history transform over time. Themes of nostalgia, intimacy, and tenderness are central to her practice as she contemplates how experiences such as sensations and conversations can be visualised.

In this pursuit, Leanne explores moments of quietude and stillness to allude to experiences that extend beyond the physical, providing a space for contemplation and introspection. Drawing inspiration from the visual languages of photography and film, she manipulates light and shadow to create evocative tonal compositions reminiscent of memories and dreams.

During these explorations, the figure and human subjectivity emerge as integral components in Leanne's work, with the consistent presence of a nostalgic lens. As such, she aims to unite the narrative and sensory qualities of these mediums with artistic traditions of representational oil painting to create contemporary ways of seeing.
