In my ongoing series, 'Stolen Gold,' inspired by the Quimbaya gold figure, I explore my Australian-Colombian identity, critiquing colonial practices in institutions like the British Museum. Commissioned by the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, 'Am (I Am Not Yours)' is a vibrant ode to strength, featuring the Olmec Head and provoking contemplation on cultural context. 'Oro robado' unveils a Colombian golden mask boldly declaring 'Stolen Gold' in Spanish, a striking reflection on stolen artifacts. Through these works, I invite viewers to journey beyond aesthetics, engaging with profound narratives of diasporic history, cultural displacement, and the complexities within our global heritage.
