In an exhibition where sculpture and painting meet, the proverb “Eye for an Eye” evolves into a poetic exchange of perspectives. Here, sculptor Astrid Salomon and painter Skye Jamieson bring together their unique visions, embodying a shared consciousness that transcends medium. Their works, side by side, represent not an equal exchange of form, but a dialogue - a mutual awakening to the other’s world.

Together, they create a harmonious interplay: each piece an “eye” that reflects back to the other, deepening insight and cultivating an aura of benevolence and nurturance. Skye Jamieson, attuned to the subtleties of colour and light, captures fleeting moments that evoke a sense of presence and introspection. Astrid Salomon, through form and texture, invites the viewer to consider solidity and the tactile reality of existence.

This shared space becomes a sanctuary of life-giving energy, where the viewer can feel the quiet resonance of two artists in communion, their visions layered to nurture a contemplative presence within the gallery.

Eye for an Eye

"This body of work marks a shift in my practice, bringing a newfound softness shaped by my materials and a recent move to a new studio. Rainwater connects these works to the environment, inviting questions about transformation and resonance.

Materials like marble, lapis lazuli, and chalk have opened new spaces in my practice, encouraging movement across the canvas- like a prayer, a blessing, or a gift - embracing the work as it is."

About Skye Jamieson

Skye Jamieson’s work explores the interplay of water, light, and the environment, with each brushstroke serving as a meditation on balance and fluidity. Using natural materials and a delicate, layered approach, she creates art that reflects her profound connection to the earth and her surroundings.

Jamieson studied Drawing and Print-Media, with a minor in Painting, at the Australian National University, where she honed her skills in drawing, painting, lithography, and glass. Her practice is deeply rooted in observation, with her landscapes and abstracted forms often inspired by fleeting moments of transformation in nature.

Since graduating, Jamieson has exhibited nationally, earning recognition as a finalist in notable awards such as the Wollumbin Art Award and the Macquarie Emerging Artist Prize. Her works have been described as ethereal, immersive, and attuned to the subtle rhythms of the natural world.

Based in a studio in Byron, NSW, Jamieson’s practice invites viewers to reflect on the intricate relationship between art, nature, and perception, fostering a sense of stillness and contemplation in the face of ever-changing landscapes.

"I’m fascinated by how we curate a way of looking out at the world while unprocessed emotions linger in the shadows. My work emerges from surrendering to an intuitive state, translating thoughts and emotions into physical form.

In the Volume series, I rarely plan the outcome - shapes reveal themselves through the process, reflecting emotional tension and the beauty in imperfection."

About Astrid Salomon

Astrid Salomon’s ceramic practice delves into the interplay between form, emotion, and storytelling, guided by a conversation with the material itself. Handbuilding each piece through the coiling technique, she balances the raw and the refined, the line and the curve, exploring the contrasts inherent in human nature. Her work is a meditation on presence and transformation, where each creation emerges from a persistent feeling or idea, shaped by experimentation and discovery.

Since establishing her studio in 2020, Salomon has dedicated herself to developing unique glazes and firing her work in her own kiln, fostering a process that embraces imperfection and individuality. This approach allows her pieces to embody a quiet yet dynamic energy, inviting viewers to connect with their layered narratives.

Recipient of the 2023 Silicious Award for Ceramic Excellence in Queensland, Australia, Salomon continues to expand her practice with a focus on innovation and materiality. Her work reflects an intimate relationship with the medium, encouraging contemplation of the delicate balance between chaos and harmony.
