Saint Cloche presents Everyday, a new solo exhibition by Naarm/Melbourne-based painter Justin Maurice Scivetti.

Following Presence, Scivetti extends his ongoing investigation into place and perception, turning towards the familiar environments that structure daily life. Streets repeatedly walked, fragments of architecture, shifting shadows and passing observations become the foundations for a new body of paintings concerned with what sustained attention can reveal.

For Scivetti, the everyday is never static.

Scivetti distils these encounters into tightly resolved compositions in which architecture, colour and light assume heightened significance. Cropped perspectives and tonal relationships shift familiar places away from straightforward representation, allowing memory and observation to coexist.

His paintings develop through a deliberately measured process. Layers are built, reconsidered and refined over time - an approach that mirrors the exhibition’s central proposition: that through repetition, perception changes.

Scivetti’s background across fine art and horticulture informs this particular sensitivity to place. His understanding of constructed and organic environments, spatial relationships and changing light underpins a visual language shaped as much by looking as by painting.

Where Presence considered the sensory experience of inhabiting a place, Everyday looks at what happens when we return to it again and again. The familiar becomes less fixed; details sharpen, relationships shift and seemingly incidental moments acquire new significance.

Everyday proposes attention as a practice in itself - a way of finding complexity within what surrounds us each day.
