What remains after tomorrow?

In a time of global uncertainty, constant movement, and an ever-expanding stream of visual information, After Tomorrow considers what holds meaning and what simmers beneath the visible.

Featuring works by Minna Leunig, Hannah Lange, Lance Corlett, Bec Smith, Valerie Vigar, Astrid Salomon, Charlotte Swiden, Luca Lettieri, Daimon Downey, George Goodnow, Inga Dalrymple and Douglas Knesse, the exhibition brings together artists helping define the contemporary landscape of Australian art through deeply individual ways of seeing.

Spanning painting, sculpture and object making, After Tomorrow draws on material, memory, architecture, nature, symbolism and human connection. Intuitive mark making, forged steel, recurring motifs, tactile abstraction and the resonance of place become different ways of interpreting what surrounds us and revealing what may simmer beneath it.

Together, the works invite a slower encounter. They encourage us to look closely, to notice what may otherwise be overlooked, and to consider how meaning can be carried through form, texture, material and process.

In a culture increasingly shaped by constructed realities, the exhibition asks not only what is real, but how we recognise it.

After Tomorrow asks what remains when the noise subsides. Perhaps it is not certainty we seek, but truth revealed through an artist’s way of seeing, shaped by the way they move through the world.

“When curating, I am continually drawn to artists whose work begins with life itself. Their practices are informed by the way they move through the world.

Observation, curiosity and lived experience shape an artist’s way of seeing. It is through this that visual languages emerge, ones that cannot be manufactured or prescribed, only discovered over time.

With After Tomorrow, I wanted to bring together artists whose work reminds us that, amid uncertainty and continual change, the most meaningful stories still come from within.”
