Hannah Nowlan completed her Bachelors in Fine Art Drawing and Printmaking with the Victorian College of the Arts in 2015 before participating in a two-month International Artist Residency at The University of Portugal, Faculty of Fine Arts Lisbon in 2016. Hannah now creatively works out of her home-based-studio as a visual artist and partner in her family business ‘Grain of Descent’. Hannah’s practice attempts to communicate relaxed and therapeutic atmospheres of Australia’s vast natural landscapes.
Hannah uses her practice to process some of the most important experiences of her life. Hannah examine themes of grief, death, loss, powerlessness, as well as birth, search and escape. She has developed a uniquely primitive language through her paintings that speak directly of person and place. Through her work Hannah employs gaping expanses of colour in attempt to create vast atmospheres and fields of consciousness that one can lose themselves within.
