Carissa Karamarko is an emerging artist based in Melbourne who uses the genre of still life to explore various themes through objects and colour. The objects she paints are often symbolic of people, places or something more intangible. Alongside objects, colour and texture are hallmarks of Carissa’s work and each come together to tell a complete story within the work. Carissa’s art practice is dynamic and ever-evolving often resulting in big visual changes from show-to-show, an energy that allows her to conceptualise without boundaries and to also continually challenge the conventions of such an established and enduring genre that is Still Life. Carissa has been a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the Geelong Contemporary Art Award, Muswellbrook Art Prize, and the Mosman Art Award. Her work is held in collections across Australia. In addition to her art practice, Carissa is a Co-founder and Designer of Studio Ting, a furniture studio that intersects art and design to create practical yet wild art pieces for the home.
