Tracey Deep ‘Under the Sea’
9 May – 21 May 2017
Opening Night 9 May, 6-8pm
Celebrated artist and sculptor of nature, Tracey Deep, thrills us yet again with her latest body of work entitled ‘Under the Sea’. This work is a celebration of the beauty of the underwater world that we all take for granted – paying homage to the incredible patterns, shapes, textures and colours that are found there. Tracey stirs the imagination with her creative deference to a treasured natural wonder – one that we need to protect for future generations.
Tracey Deep is a creative adventurer and a biology enthusiast. From the ‘far north’ to the ‘deep south’ our plant sculptor has accumulated her own cabinet of curious natural specimens. She has a sharp eye – and finds strings of kelp and armfuls of black and white seaweed. What might make us cringe and hold our noses, due to its salty and the acrid decaying smell, is gathered up by Tracey and taken to her studio to be cared for before turning them into sculptures.
Her new exhibition overwhelms us with the tactile materiality of the sought-after coastal sponges and sea life that has been washed up on our coastal shores, stretching from far north Queensland to the white sands of Western Australia.
Under the Sea opens Tuesday 9th May, 2017, 6-8pm
