CLARE BRODIE – PATHWAYS
15 – 26 February 2017
Opening Night 15 February, 6-8pm
CLARE BRODIE is a Sydney-based emerging artist, who most recently placed as finalist in 2016 in the coveted Mosman Art Prize – her third time.
As an artist, Clare draws on her previous life as a commercial interior designer, finding a natural enjoyment in the placement and balance of her subjects. Most of her artworks are of moments in time, through which she attempts to understand and share a personal narrative.
‘PATHWAYS’ evolved from Clare’s solo walks in her local park, which form an important meditative part of her daily art practice. Clare depicts her experiences in flat planes of reduced saturated colour, simplifying her environment and ordering her creative thought. The pathways form a narrative to reflect an inner journey that is taken one step at a time; no destination is revealed… just slight shifts in perspectives. Clare’s use of poignant, rhythmic, forms unearth the simple beauty of the bush, beyond its hidden complexities. Empowered by her connection with nature, Clare’s art practice draws on the strength of the landscape.
This is Clare’s first solo show.
