FLORA BY BRUCE SLORACH
Discover the weird, wild and wonderful beauty of Bruce Slorach’s native flower paintings.
The unique beauty of Australian native flora and fauna is celebrated in a painting and drawing exhibition titled “Flora”, opening Friday 11th March through to Thursday 23rd at Saint Cloche Gallery, Paddington during Art Month Sydney 2016.
For more than twenty years, Bruce Slorach has enjoyed an extensive and rewarding career both in the arts, design, graphic and textile design.
“I’ve been painting since I was teenager and have explored a range of diverse influences however I’ve always returned to the idea of a ‘sense of place’ and what surrounds me. I’ve never fitted into a particular ‘box’ but I’ve always loved the bush and native foliage. For the last three years, my practice has revolved around native flora and an exploration of historical botanical works. I love the way Australian plants have a very distinct other worldly personality and an almost Jurassic presence.”
Bruce has participated in many exhibitions during his career including London’s prestigious V&A Museum, The Victorian Gallery (NGV), The Australian National Gallery and The Powerhouse Museum (Sydney). His artworks are permanent acquisitions at several of these galleries. Bruce’s body of work continues to feature regularly in many well-recognised Australian and international magazines and newspapers.
Aside from a five-year period as Creative Director at Mambo Graphics, Bruce has been a self-employed designer and artist, beginning his career in the mid 1980s. For the past twelve years Bruce has operated Deuce Design with Sophie Tatlow, a creatively based design and environmental graphics studio. The studio is responsible for creating some of Sydney’s most memorable and creative graphic design work.
Since 2012, Bruce has been at the artistic helm of cult textile brand, Utopia Goods. Utopia Goods is recognised as one of Autralia’s leading soft furnishing textiles brands, producing a unique and quality, hand crafted product featuring the mesmerising whimsy of his distinct hand.
