MEL LUMB – HABITAT SERIES II
SAINT CLOCHE @ ROBERT PLUMB
Saint Cloche is excited to announce a satellite presence within the new Robert Plumb showroom at The Casbah in Danks Street, Waterloo.
The Casbah is an iconic mixed-use development with a central courtyard oasis that offers cross-site pedestrian access to what has become a strong design hub. Robert Plumb moved out of their longstanding location in Botany to join Spence & Lyda, R.W.Winnings and others.
The first artist from Saint Cloche to be presented at the Robert Plumb showroom with an exhibition of ceramic vessels is Queensland potter Mel Lumb. Evocative of Mel’s work, the vessels are characterised by earthy qualities, organic shapes and interesting glaze treatments. For the Habitat II vessels presented in this exhibition, the stoneware clay body has been inlaid with porcelain to deliver gentle texture with rivulets of subtle off-white.
“Inspired by a recent family trip to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands, some pieces depict the magic of ant trails. Such mesmerising little creatures, they can lift up to 20 times their body weight and could certainly teach us all a thing or two about focus.”
– Mel Lumb
10% of profits from sale of Mel’s work is donated to charity – specifically Forget Me Not Australia, an organisation which seeks to highlight the plight of children unnecessarily forced into orphanages. You can discover more about this organisation at fmn.org.au.
The showroom is thoughtfully curated and Mel’s works perfectly compliment Robert Plumb’s timeless timber and metal furniture, pots and planters. The HABITAT II series will be available to view and acquire for a limited time, so please visit them soon.
