FANTASIA – Evi O.
Saint Cloche Gallery Paddington is exhibiting at Sydney Contemporary for the first time with a solo presentation of a popular, emerging artist Evi O.
Four years ago, Kitty Clark, Founder of Saint Cloche Gallery made the move from the corporate world of luxury fashion to the art world – and now she is at the epicentre of a growing community of like-minded creatives, promoting art, culture and contemporary thinking.
The modern gallery space situated on the corner of a four-way intersection in the heart of Paddington is hard to miss. It is a friendly, unintimidating space, despite it’s huge, oversized steel framed glass apertures that allow natural light to flood into the gallery during the day and transforms the space into a shimmering lantern by night. Within the glass jewel box, Kitty’s judicious curation always exhibited in the most innovative, elevated picture-hangs and installations, on open display.
Being one of only a few galleries in East Sydney that gives opportunity to emerging artists has proven to be an asset, and Kitty has swiftly cultivated a new clientele of collectors who have an eager eye and appetite for her ‘reveal’. For evolving artists it’s a non-traditional, opportunity to present their work to new audiences in a reformist space elevated through design.
“Championing emerging artists and connecting them with new collectors is important to me as I believe that we cannot have a thriving art scene if we do not invest in emerging artists. It is essential that we not only promote the work of emerging artists but also give them a platform through which they can financially support their practice.”
– Kitty Clark, Founder, Saint Cloche Gallery
At Sydney Contemporary 2019, Kitty has chosen to do a solo- presentation of one of her artists from Saint Cloche Gallery. Evi O is one of the first artists whose work Kitty showcased at Saint Cloche Gallery and they have evolved together over the four years, creatively and professionally.
“What better way than to communicate through colour? Evi O – colour is her ‘super power’. Evi’s work will make such a statement at Sydney Contemporary as it’s bold, colourful and fun!”
Sydney Contemporary is Australia’s international art fair, exhibiting the country’s largest and most diverse gathering of local and international galleries.
About Evi O.
Evi O is an award-winning designer and self-taught artist based in Sydney. With a curious eye and mind, she is constantly exploring and observing her surroundings.
Through paint, Evi O continues to explore the use of dominant abstract shapes, although the compositions she presents are broadly suggestive of earthly forms – animal, plant or constructed. The creatures she depicts, and the scenes that she relays are symbolic of people and places that have left their mark – and this affords her an intimacy with her subjects that infuses the images with emotional resonance. Colour is the cornerstone of Evi O’s practice, and her works are reduced, abstracted, and finely balanced colour works.
To give you an insight into her creative inner sanctum, Evi shares a link to her personal playlist on Spotify that she listens to when she paints (feel free to share):
