Tuesday 6th – Sunday 18th December
Opening Night Tuesday 6th December, 6-8pm
This December Saint Cloche gallery presents COUNTERPOINTS.
CHRIS ANTICO is an established Australian visual artist who states, “Over time I have come to realise an emptiness that hangs between each written word that reminds me of the Australian landscape that has always been the substratum of my work”.
SERENA HORTON is a UK-born, Sydney-based ceramicist who finds the alchemy from within the kiln is the fire of her inspiration. Her elegant vessels have evolved into richly decorated pod-like celestial planets that are majestically orbited by a series of interconnected worlds.
For COUNTERPOINTS, both these artists have arrived at surprisingly similar destinations. Chris Antico has done so by abandoning his tried and true formulas from previous bodies of work. By paring down his colour range he has found a more fundamental lexicon of visual images. In contrast to these urban landscapes, Serena Horton’s intense research into a diverse range of materials has provided her work with a colourful platform from which she celebrates the kernel of humanity.
Each artist has drawn upon their previous explorations and this exhibition is the metronome that provides a point and counterpoint to two very individual bodies of work.
