Aedan Harris is an artist and educator in ceramics, recently at Gymea, Hornsby and Nepean TAFE, teaching Ceramic Design and Visual Arts & Craft. He began his ceramic education at National Art School in Sydney (Certificate of Ceramics), then completed a Diploma of Art (Ceramics) at ANU, and in 2009 graduated with a BVA (Honours) Ceramics degree from SCA, University of Sydney. Aedan has participated in exhibitions and residencies both nationally and internationally since 1999.
He has been the recipient of a number of awards including Japan Foundation’s JENESYS grant 2007/2008, Japan Foundation’s Arts and Cultural Exchange grant 2009 and an Honour Award at the 5th World Ceramic Biennale Korea International Competition 2009. From 1999 to 2000 Aedan was an artist-in-residence at Sturt Craft Centre and in 2008 completed an artist residency at Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan.
Since 2009, Aedan has focused on large multiple piece ceramic installations, both indoor and outdoor, and functional and sculptural vessel forms.
